Getting Rid of a Mantis

If you want to get rid of a mantis, wear thick gloves then pick the insect up. Try picking the praying mantis up from behind to position the mouth and forelegs in front of your hands. This insect has sharp and strong front legs, and can give a painful bite. Mantises are not poisonous and deadly, but they can be hurtful through their bite and forelegs.

Use thick gloves for minimizing this possibility. Put the mantis into a box and then cover it with a lid. The lid must have air holes, which are not big enough to let the mantis escape.

Now, relocate your praying mantis. You may not want the insect to stay in your yard, but it is generally beneficial. You can find out if the mantis can be used by a school for lessons or is wanted by another gardener. But if you do not want to take the trouble of relocating it, it is legal to kill the praying mantis to get rid of it. You may want to crush a praying mantis with your shoe or simply step on it. Also, use a gardening tool for hitting a larger mantis. Although this method is legal, it is still much better to just relocate the insect and let it continue to live.
